Zhongdian (Shangri-La)
May 23 and 24, 2008

(we arrived that evening)

Pay attention to the sky in the photos of this page. Zhongdian is almost as high as Lhasa, Tibet, and the sky is a much darker blue due to the altitude. It's extremely beautiful. The clouds look much closer as well.

We had dinner at Arro Khampa, of Khampa Caravan. Our chef, who is in the middle, was from Nepal.

Notice the street lamps are prayer wheels!

The largest prayer wheel in the world.

We liked Arro Khampa so much, we went back there for chai tea.

The temple at the top of this hill was surrounded by Tibetan prayer flags (more than I'd seen anywhere else).

This is one of my favorite photos.

I loved this dog (it belonged to our hostel. You can see the hostel toilets and showers behind it).
